Corvallis Fall Festival Showing

Junipers at Painted Hills

I had a print of "Painted Hills Junipers" in the Corvallis Fall Festival '06 "Fine Arts Showcase", which was very well received, and ended up selling once.

I was often asked if I had "done something in Photoshop"... this seems to be the cross that modern landscape and nature photographers must bear. The image is untouched, even the white balance and saturation are set at the automatic defaults for the camera, and are "true to life". Of course, cameras always lie, but mine is not lying any more than anyone else's.

This section of the Painted Hills is somewhat off the beaten track, so it is an aspect of the structure that is not commonly seen by the public.

New Site Design

Image

The Ruaux.net site has been basically rebuilt from the ground up, with a new CMS backend .
The CMS I am using is an open source product called Joomla, and I have integrated Menalto Gallery2 for image display.

Clicking on the links in the menu to the left, or up at the top of the page, will take you to the content on the site.

I have copied over some of my older trip-report material to this version of the site, this may be found by clicking on the link in the bottom left menu titled "Archival Material".

Me

Somewhat of a stranger in a strange land, I was born in New Zealand, grew up in Australia, and lived in the USA since late 1999, first in College Station, TX and then in Corvallis, OR. At the end of 2016 I returned to New Zealand, after only 47 years away...

I am a veterinarian, professionally I am board certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. I work at the Massey University Veterinary School, where I am an Associate Professor in Small Animal Medicine.

I have research interests in gastrointestinal and pancreatic disease, biological variation in clinical testing, transfusion medicine and methods for assessment of teaching and communication competence in preclinical veterinary students. You can PubMed me HERE if you like.

In my "spare" time I enjoy landscape and nature photography (particularly underwater, whenever possible), growing exotic plants, and futzing around with open source hardware/software.
